community, lesbian, out
Tara: What was it like uh, raising Claire? What were your experiences in uh, with the school system? All the way up until this moment.
Mary: I have to say um, it’s been fantastic. Um, every, every step of the way has been wonderful. Um, um, the community at, in her elementary school… I’m pretty certain we were the only um, lesbian family. Um, it’s, it’s just not even an issue. I think that’s in part because we, that’s the way we lead our lives. We want to be authentic. We, we came of age and grew up in a time where um, there was change afoot, but it, it hadn’t really happened yet. But I guess we had enough self-confidence in, in that to understand that we had to project, um the authenticity of our lives in order to um, be, get that back, coming back to us. So um, it’s been a conscious choice but it also it just kind of comes naturally as well.
