summer camp, disclosure, family, family structure, out
Lara: When Dale was seven - so he’s born in April, so he was seven in this August, we sent him to um, a week of uh, overnight camp. And he was sort of interested in doing it, and it was just a week and it was for young, young kids and it was through the YMCA. And signed him up, and good to go. And a couple months later, approaching August, I suddenly realized, you know “Bev, like we should let the camp director know,” because I suddenly realized Dale was going to be at camp, with a bunch of other kids from different places in Ontario. And it was in um, it was outside of Bracebridge.
Tara: Oh okay, up north.
Lara: Yeah, so it was up north. And I thought “We’d better let the director know!”
Tara: Yeah.
Lara: Like it was something we hadn’t had to worry about before, and it was something that suddenly occurred to me many, many weeks after signing him up.
Tara: Yeah.
Lara: And it was one of those, I mean I remember that today, because sometimes things hit you in such a way that you’ll remember then forever. And I remember feeling a bit of fear.
Tara: Yeah.
Lara: You know, not for him, but that we’d better connect with the camp director.
Tara: Right.
Lara: There was no issue.
Tara: Good.
Lara: And he had such a great time.
