The idea of “coming” out or “being” out is not always a decision that queer people are allowed to make for ourselves. More often than not, this concept is at least partially constructed by how our society categorizes and polices gender expression. Creative, queer, and/or non-binary gender expression is still unexpected in most Ontario schools: a reality that is at best unwelcoming, and at times unsafe.
