love, family, support, acceptance
Mary: I think, she’s only known love! No I mean, her grandparents are a huge part of our life, and, and um, you know, they had to do a lot of growing as well through this whole thing. You know, learning about their daughter um, who you know, came out at a later stage in life. And then, and then the baby, and, and C is fortunate maybe, it has it’s disadvantages too, but she is the only grandchild on J’s side of the family. And, J has other siblings, and they don’t have children, so she is the only niece. And you know, she gets a lot of--
Tara: Attention.
Mary: reinforcement, and attention, and I think she gets a lot of her confidence and self-esteem from being surrounded by all that unconditional love. So, I’m not so naive to think that there won’t be times where she will have some issues, and will, will come face-to-face with some people who are--but also, I’ve been amazed in my teaching career. Where I’ve seen the resiliency and the, and the flexibility of children um, who are much more open and flexible than, than adults--
Tara: Right
Mary: --in how they have opened themselves up to embrace newness and difference and that kind of thing. And I’m sure that she’s going to have her issues, but so far so good!
