discouragement, resiliency, community, support, allies, teachers
Tara: So how do you deal with the moments of discouragement and pain? Is there, uh, any strategies you could share with our teachers who are also pioneers?
Kevin: I think – I think the strength of community is so important, and like-minded community. Not to tune out the voices that disagree, I don’t think that’s helpful, but to – in those moments of discouragement – to remember, like, what support and strength a loving partner can give, that loving colleagues can give. I – I mean there were people who objected to my ordination – my election – but, my goodness, there were a whole lot of clergy and laypeople who stood with me and have stood with me every step of the way. So, one of the things I would say to those teachers is to really look – look for your allies, look for those who are going to stand with you, because they’re out there. They really are.
